| 2. Share your aloha for Maha`ulepu with a decision maker.
Writing a short note to a decision-maker has real impact. Receiving a steady stream of personal notes educates leaders and keeps Maha`ulepu on the agenda and in their mind and hearts of our governmental officials. Take time to express why Maha`ulepu is special to you and your family.
Below is:
1) sample text and
2) addresses of important elected officials and others.
Do you have a photo of Maha`ulepu or of you and others enjoying it? Send a copy of it with your note!
We would appreciate knowing that you took the time to send a note. Let us know by sending an email to blaich@aloha.net.
Sample resident note:
Dear __________________,
Maha'ulepu is where my family goes to unwind
and recharge. My husband fishes. My three children swim at
the swimming hole at the point of Maha'ulepu beach. All of
us walk the headlands toward Ha`ula, looking at whales and
for monk seals and turtles. There is no other place like this.
Maha'ulepu is the last, accessible undeveloped coast
on Kauai's south shore. Kaua`i doesn't need another resort.
We have several new ones which were approved in the past or recently added to the new General Plan.
My family is counting on your leadership to find the way and the means, including State and Federal funds, to preserve this special area for future generations.
Sincerely,
Sample visitor note:
Dear ___________________,
Recently my family visited Kaua`i.
We have enjoyed the other Hawaiian Islands, but Kaua`i has
the reputation of being less developed and it is. We loved
that rural quality. We especially loved the wilderness area
at the end of the Po`ipu area where we stayed. At Maha`ulepu
you feel like you are discovering a real place, shaped by
nature and not manufactured by commercial interests. You feel
like you are with, not separated from, local people.
I hope that people can always encounter a wild Maha`ulepu. I want you to know that experiencing an undeveloped coastline is the greatest asset you can offer visitors.
Respectfully,
